AVES 2007 Convention
Thurs 16th - Sun 19th August 2007

The concept for the AVES Parrot Convention is to promote and improve aviculture, especially the aspect of keeping and breeding Psittacines. Speakers are chosen for their expertise in these areas, rather than to dwell too much on conservation areas concerning wild birds. We strive to bring the best aviculturists from Australia and around the world to formally deliver their lecture and informally disclose their particular expertise. Enough social events are held to enable delegates and speakers to trade personal knowledge whilst renewing friendships, contacts and business opportunities.

AVES 2007 will commence Thursday the 16th with a casual "Meet the speakers" dinner at the Grafton Lawn Bowls Club overlooking the Clarence River from 5.30pm-8.30pm.  Friday morning delegates and speakers will travel by coach to the sea port of Coffs Harbour for a Whale Watching Cruise.  Lunch will be taken prior to the return to Grafton, in time for the commencement of the speaker programme at 3pm, followed by a formal  dinner that evening. The meal is conducted in a finger food manner enabling further socialising, intermingled with light welcoming entertainment.

Saturday is a day full of lectures accompanied by generous food breaks. On Saturday evening delegates are invited to the AVES Gala Dinner, commencing approximately 90 minutes after the last lecture to allow delegates time to prepare for the night’s entertainment.

Sunday commences with a sunrise breakfast for those who can rise to the occasion. Following breakfast, lectures recommence with food breaks throughout the programme. At the completion of Sunday’s lectures delegates and guests make the short journey by courtesy bus or private transport to Casuarina Parrot Gardens. Visitors are welcomed to view one of Australia's premier parrot collections followed by a BBQ and copious amounts of liquid amber! The evening party has become legendary as a joke telling competition and has seen the demise of more than a few reputations.

As the convention is non-profit, the majority of beverages and food is included in the delegate registration fee. This completes the convention for the majority of visitors, however the Outback Tour entices people from all around the world to continue the parrot experience (for full tour details click here).
